Infinity Power, Hassan Allam Utilities advance 1.2 GW solar project in Egypt

Arab Finance: Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities Energy have signed the notice to proceed (NTP) for the Nefer Minya Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Project in West Minya, according to a press release.

This step marks the start of full-scale engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works on one of Egypt’s largest renewable energy projects.

The project will feature 1.2 gigawatts-peak (GWp) of solar photovoltaic capacity, along with a 600-megawatt-hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Designed to shift electricity supply from peak solar generation hours to periods of higher demand, the system will store surplus daytime solar power and dispatch it during evening peak-demand periods. It is expected to enhance grid stability and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the national electricity grid.

The milestone follows the signing of the power purchase agreement (PPA) in November 2025, and the launch of early construction works in June 2026.

Meanwhile, the project is progressing toward its targeted commercial operation date in September 2027, with full-scale construction now set to begin.

Amr Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, said: “Nefer Minya represents a major step forward in the development of Egypt’s renewable energy infrastructure, combining large-scale solar generation with battery storage to deliver clean power when it is needed most.”

Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Co-Founder and Chairman of Infinity Power, noted: “Combining 1.2 GWp of solar capacity with 600 MWh of battery storage will enable reliable renewable power generation at scale while supporting grid stability and energy security. This milestone also represents further progress toward Infinity Power’s ambition of achieving 10 GW of operational renewable energy capacity by 2032.

Omar Hosny, Chief Development Officer of Energy and Water at Hassan Allam Utilities, highlighted: “Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 1,419,237 homes annually and avoid around 1,593,600 tons of CO2 emissions each year.”
