As temperatures rise each summer, the arrival of mango season becomes one of the most anticipated times of the year in Egypt. Renowned for their rich flavor, vibrant colors, and refreshing taste, mangoes are a seasonal favorite enjoyed by households across the country. Beyond their cultural and culinary appeal, mangoes also represent an important agricultural commodity for Egypt.

This factsheet explores Egypt’s mango sector, providing insights into production trends, export performance, and the country’s growing position in the global mango market.

  • Egypt’s relationship with mango cultivation dates back to 1832, when the first mango tree was introduced from India and planted in the gardens of Shubra Palace. What began with only a limited number of varieties has since evolved into a thriving and diverse mango industry. Today, Egypt is home to more than 200 mango varieties, distinguished by their unique flavors, aromas, colors, and textures. Among the most popular varieties cultivated in the country are Awees, Fas, Taymour, Alphonso, and Hendi, reflecting both the rich heritage and remarkable diversity of Egypt’s mango production.
  • Mangoes are cultivated across a total area of 342,187 feddan in Egypt, which represents 2% of the country’s total crop area and 19% of its total fruit-crop area. These lands produced around 1.55 million tons of mangoes in the 2023/2024 marketing year.
  • Mango is not native to Egypt, yet the country has become one of the world’s top producers, ranking 8th globally, with a share of 2.8% from the world’s production.
  • Beheira governorate, including Nobaria city, is responsible for 34% of Egypt’s production with 528,701 tons. Ismailia and Sharkia came in 2nd and 3rd places, with shares of 19% and 13%, respectively.
  • In 2025, Egypt’s mango exports reached 64,463 tons, valuing at $122 million. The crop made up 4.1% of Egypt’s fruit exports and 2.5% of the country’s agricultural exports. Mango exports remarkably grew by 12% year-on-year (YoY) between 2022 and 2023.
  • In 2025, Egypt acquired a 3.3% share of the world’s mango market, ranking as the 8th largest supplier following Thailand, Mexico, the Netherlands, Brazil, Peru, Spain, and India.
  • Egypt exported mangoes to 73 markets in 2025. Russia was the leading destination, importing $52 million worth of Egyptian mangoes, accounting for 42.6% of Egypt’s exports. Saudi Arabia and the UAE followed, with imports valued at $18 million and $8 million, accounting for 14.7% and 6.6% of Egypt’s exports, respectively.
