The Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has overwhelmingly elected Egypt’s candidate, Khaled El-Enany, as the organization’s new Director-General, as per a statement.

El-Enany served as Egypt’s Tourism and Antiquities Minister from December 22nd, 2019 to August 13th, 2022, and he also served as the Minister of Antiquities from March 23rd, 2016, to December 21st, 2019, being the first minister to hold the tourism and antiquities portfolios together since the separation of the ministries in 1966.
