El-Molla inspects petrochemical projects in New Alamein

Arab Finance: Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla has inspected the new petrochemical projects at New Alamein’s city industrial zone, as per a statement on August 27th.

The projects include the silicon and sodium carbonate production projects implemented in 2023, which are the first-of-its-kind projects in Egypt, El-Molla said.

It is worth noting that the zone is expected to include a utilities and logistics services project to serve the projects implemented in the zone, Chairman of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM) Ibrahim Mekki said.

The sodium carbonate production project is targeting to produce around 600,000 tons annually of sodium carbonate, along with other derivatives and secondary products, with $685 million worth of investments.

On the other hand, the silicone production project aims to exploit 130,000 tons a year of raw quartz to produce 45,000 tons annually of silicone in the first phase, with investments of $172 million.
